Hi there,
I'm wanting to network my current machine, a PowerBook 1400, with my new iBook.
I figured an Ethernet PC Card was the way to go, but which brand. I am looking for minimum price as the key feature.
Does anyone know if any cards primarily designed for PCs (which seem to be heaps cheaper) will work in the 1400 without specific drivers?

You could also use a SCSI - Ethernet adapter.

True, a SCSI adapter could work too. The ones I've seen have been quite bulky, much more so obviously than a PC card.
I would have thought a SCSI adaptor might be even more expensive... Anyone got models with indicative pricing?

I have been using a DAYNA COMMUNICARD for the past three years without a problem. At the time it cost about $300 (Australian). However I have since learn't that this company has been bought out but the new owners are still selling PC cards. It also came with two installer disks one for a Mac and the other for windows, therefore I assume cards made primarily for PC's will work on a Mac BUT not without the correct drivers. Also have you tried this site http://store.powerbook1.com/modems.html.

Farallon's EtherMac and EtherWave PCMCIA card was based on the 3com model 595 card. If you were to pick up the 595 card that would normally be used on a PC and get the Mac drivers from Farallon you would have the same card I have. But for guaranteed operation, you would be best off scrounging around in eBay looking for a Farallon Ethernt PC Card for PowerBook.
