Does anyone know if this 9.1 gig Seagate drive (ST410800N) will fit into a 8500 without major reconstruction? The size description is as follows... "THIS DRIVE IS A 5.25" FULL HEIGHT DRIVE!" Height (inches/mm): 3.25/82.6 x Width (inches/mm): 5.75/146.1 x Depth (inches/mm): 8.0/203
Weight (lbs/kg): 7.8/3.6
If anyone is interested, they are going for $20 delivered at http://www.softwareandstuff.com/h_hd...te410800n.html
Any info appreciated.
Thanks,
X

Funny, I was just thinking about putting one of those in my 8500 the other day. I've got several at work, and they are doing nobody any good.
The space in the drive area looks like it would be big enough, but I'm not sure. I bet the original Apple specs on the 8500 would tell for sure.

For $9 bucks, I'd risk it.

I did risk it... I figure I can always get an external box for it.
What I have heard is that these things run really hot. Venihilation may be an issue with these without some sort of additional fan support in the 8500. I know they will work in the 8600 9600 series because of the huge fan that comes with those. I'll keep you posted as to how it turns out.

Not without a fight, and plenty of added ventilation. But anything's possible!
