My old Sony CDRW was replaced Sony CRX1750L. FYI-I'm on a beige G3 266 w/ 320 mg ram.

The Sony CRX1750L:
1. Crashes the finder under OS 9.2.1 on shutdown and restart
2. Is not recognized by Apple System Profiler
3. Not recognized by iTunes nor DiscBurner
4. Does play audio CD's

I've tried both Keyspan and Que Firewire cards, tried new cables and exchanged the drive for a new one-same model.

Is it possible I'm missing some extensions or authoring support?
If it's authoring supprt I don't mind waiting if that's the case.
DP 867, 768 meg ram, OS 10.2.3

It's probably just not a supported drive by Apple and Sony. If you have Toast installed, the drive should work. I ran into the same problem. I wanted to upgrade my stock 8X/4X/24X to a 24X/10X/40X and had problems too. The biggest thing for me is that iTunes wouldn't recognize the drive - a biggee for me because I love to burn audio CDs using iTunes.

Cruise over to www.xlr8yourmac.com and check out their Compatibility Database for more info.
