OS9 Disk Full error message

Recently I've been getting error code -34
messages (disk full) when I try to save files. This happens frequently using both UUencode as well as UULite.
I have a 6 GIG HD of which inly a mere 2 Gigs
is actually used. Any ideas on how to fix this?

your temp items folder must be HUGE.
go to versiontracker.com and search for 'empty temp items' a freeware app that will zap those nasty temp items, thus freeing up space...
MacOS 9 does not emtpy the temp items folder as did nearly every other previous version of MacOS, remember the 'rescued items' (temp files) that would appear in your trashcan from time to time?
aha! no more! you have to do it yourself now!
it is not a BUG it is a FEATURE

Thanks for the reply WLONH. Since I'm in graphic arts I'm not surprised my temp folder is huge.
I checked versiontracker as u suggested but
their search feature didn't work and even
after scrolling thru the 300-odd software items manually, I failed to find anything called "empty temp items". Sherlock didn't
help when I looked for it there, either

OK, I found it and ran it but still no
change. It deleted about 3MB of temp
files but I'm still getting the disk full
message.
Any other ideas?

have you run all the usual disk repair util's on it?
perhaps updating the driver would help (i've done this several times to various Macs and never came to grief from it though it has been stated by various sage sources that this can cause troubles) use drive setup that came with your MacOS.
and then there is the old stand-by... delete a mess o' pref's: Finder pref's, System pref's, etc... though something tells me this is not going to fix your problem, who knows...
and of course, rebuild the desktop and zap PRAM, though again, i doubt this will help...
and i have never come to grief by using a 'shotgun' approach to fixing a problem... Macs and MacOS seem very forgiving to me when i slap them hard.

OK, thanks. Yeah I'm a Mac user since 1985
and I tried all the usual tricks u suggested
though I didn't zap the PRAM.
I think what remains is to back-up everything
in Retrospect, reinitialize to clear the disk
and then reload. Obvioucsly something is very wrong as the OS 9 appears to only want to address 2 GIGs of memory and no more.
I also ran Norton Utils but that was no help.
Anyway, thanks for your help, I'll let
u know how I get on.

before you trouble yourself with a reinit of HD, try to just update the HD's driver using Drive Setup, this may work!!
it does just that, updates HD driver, no erasure of your data, etc
