Just got a new G4 the other week. Everything is going great with the exception of really slow Appleshare. I would like to log on to other Macs on the network and share files. However, it is really slow. The rest of my network connections are blindingly fast, so it doesn't seem to be and ethernet card/cable/jack issue. Any ideas?

Try using the "Server IP Address" button and connecting to a computer by an IP address, over TCP/IP.
See if thats faster.
If not... um, post back and we'll see what else we can do.
Can you describe your network? Hub, switch, central servers, just crossover?
Etc...

Alright, here is the rundown. Not sure what kind of network I am on - in the chooser, each building on the network is divided into a separate zone - thats all I really know. As far as TCP/IP connections, connecting to a computer seemed a little faster and browsing the hard disk, but copying files was still slow. However, when connecting regularly, my whole computer gets very sluggish. Connecting to my computer from a remote computer has the same results. Connecting to my iDisk is also slow. As I have said before, the rest of my internet settings fly - it only seems to be bogged down on the services that mount the shared volume on my desktop. Thanks.
