See above...
becuase, when I copy over 500 megs of stuff, it uses 650 off the HD (for the image I guess) which leaves my boot partition with about 15 megs... When I tell it to burn it says that there isn't enough space to burn...HOW much more does it need? It's already got the 650 megs! (Before cdr there is about 670...)
anyway, any help would be appreciated...also I have external que drive.

it's always 2x the size of your files, because appe chooses to copy the data to a hidden disk image, so it can order the data right (optimize the directories, yadda, yadda) It's a good idea, but It would be nice if you could turn it off.

So I have to have 1.3 gbs of FREE space in order to burn a full CD on my BOOT PARTITION? THAT is crazy! AT LEAST let us pick which partition to save the invisible image....yeesh....

Right. You need a Gig and a half free. Oh, well - at least the price is right.

Now hopefully Apple will update Disc Burner to allow selection of the drive that the data will be written to temporarily instead of the root drive.
Most of my other drives have in excess of 20gigs whereas my root disk is about 3 or 4 gigs. Since it's a system disk, I partitioned that into a 10 gig HD.
Remember to look in the preferences folder for the Disc Burner Image file, when a Disc Burner CAN'T write the disc or it fails. I had 4 images (each 650) that took up 2.6 and I thought I had to clean out the drive (remove) stuff) just to get functionality out of Disc Burner!
Disc Burner (as good as it is) needs a little more work.
