HD DVD hack

Just started using this application for my DVD's and HD DVD's, and I immediately missed the visual difference between a DVD box and a HD DVD box.
Well....to make a long story short, I made a small hack. It looks like this, side by side with a normal DVD:
The Hack replaces the VHS format resources with new ones. I have trashed my VHS player a long time ago so this doesn't bother me. Because Delicious Library caches the covers when you change the format of a title, even when you replace the VHS resource, the cached ones won't change. You can use this behavior to get both HD DVD and Bluray covers but, they will of cause both be registered as VHS format.
To install it yourself:
- download one of these zip files HD DVD or BLURAY
- unzip it. (Safari will do this for you)
- Right click the Delicious Library application icon, and choose "Show package contents"
- Navigate to Conents/ressources, and alt/option+drag the two files (VHS.tiff &
VHSMask.tiff) into this folder. They will overwrite the VHS box, just so you know.
- To apply the new box, restart DL and change your HD DVD's or Blu ray's format to VHS in the details list, one by one.
If you want you can change the VHS resource again, restart DL and change some other titles to VHS to get both HD DVD and Bluray covers.
So any downsides?
Sure, your HD DVD or Bluray's is now tagged as a VHS and the cover image shows in the box a little cropped. But I think it works great...
As you can see, with a little copying back and forth, you can get both DVD, HD DVD and Bluray in the same library.....

As you can see, I have updated the post with a Bluray box. Not that I have any of those myself, though.

Very cool. I'm hoping that this is solved in DL2, but I love that you made your solution public for DL users.

Very cool. I too hope this is added in DL2.
I'd also like to see some user themeable items as well — override-able book and media dimensions would be great too, as not all items come in "average" form factors — I own many a horizontal book, for instance, which DL squashes into vertical submission. And then there are all those oddly shaped boxed sets. <sigh>

Books should be easy as Amazon already tells you exactly how big the item is (useful since "comic" covers both graphic novels and leaf comics, and even graphic novels have huge variation in size.)
Last time I checked DVDs weren't so peachy though.

Looking forward to seeing this in Delicious Library 2.
I haven't bought into DL1, but I'd consider it if it was in DL2 esp. if there was a price drop.

Don't expect a price drop. Delicious Library has been a wild success, so there's no motivation for that. If the price changes (which I don't expect it to on the normal version), I'd expect a hike.

Well, I'm glad for DL that they've been so successful. Certainly, the product looks great and they deserve to be successful. However, at $40 I may just hold off personally.

Also, laserdisc. Technically UMD is in there, but it only works for videogames.

HDDVD, Blu-ray, UMD, and XBox have been implemented in Delicious Library 2.

Its not dead yet, and even if it died a year ago, the fact that some were sold and that people have them on their shelf, I would expect them to include support for it. The current version supports Laser Disk, does it not?
And yes, could somebody re upload the images, I looked everywhere for them and could not find them. I guess I could wait until the next version comes out, but I am impatient.

If you're looking for the format war thread... Wrong thread.
ie. People might actually want to use a feature for discs they actually own.

It does. Also, vinyl records. And DL2 has added support for vinyl sizes and more obsolete video game formats than you can shake a stick at. Also, I think both Blu-Ray and HD-DVD suck, so there.

What the hell took you so long?! I posted it original just for you.
I kinda figured that since HD-DVD's lost the war they wouldn't vaporize off peoples shelves the day off. That is why it was a joke with a at the end.
So sensitive

Could anybody report the files as they are not available anymore ? Or should I wait next week in case DL2 is made available ? ;-)
Thanks,
Cedric
