What? The Mk VI is easily the most bland of the hothatch bunch, except for maybe the Leon, especially when you consider it next to the drop-dead sexy DS3. Certainly not over the top, especially condsidering it's essentially the same body except the lower air dam and grille as the Golf. Maybe in red, but red's not a good GTI colour. Black or the dark blue please.

Moderators have convinced me that the MkV GTI is the best car in the world. I retract everything I said, it is absolutely stunning and exceptional in every category. I hope to one day sell all my other vehicles and purchase a MkV instead.

You know, Rob, I'm not sure which of your posts got you reported, but you might want to consider:

Red not good?! Fightin' words!
It's important that people see me coming, so they can get out of my way.
Black cars are involved in more accidents - less noticeable.

Well I like red (my car's red), but I personally just think the GTI looks better in darker colours. Plus the red line doesn't stand out as well if the whole car is red

When I see a dude in a red car, I think that he’s secretly showing that he wants to be somewhat female. Red car, red lipstick.

Hausfrauenporsche was either the Karmann Ghia or, more popularly, the 924.
Never heard the term applied to the Audi TT.

I never have.
Google websearch turns up exactly one hit involving the Audi TT when you search for "Hausfrauenporsche tt", and not a single image (as far through the results pages as I could be bothered to look).
Searching for "Hausfrauenporsche" is all Karmann Ghias, 924s, 944s, and Boxster.

Odd. It must have been just me and my colleagues then. I still think it's a fitting moniker - after all, Hausfrauen are not too far off from metrosexuals

Every time I see a bloke in a TT, I automatically assume he likes the cock. Now, if you like the cock then it's fine, but since I don't like the cock I wouldn't drive a TT.
This brings about a kind of cyclic love/love situation. Since all Audi drivers are cocks, and TT drivers like the cock, I'm surprised that they don't spontaneously combust in an explosion of self-love.

I think the DS3 outdoes the Mini in style with this new version. Hands down. But I'm more of a blue person...
I've always liked smaller cars for their maneuverability and efficiency. And this is certainly not an "old" Cit, like the earlier DS...
Nor the 2CV....

Sorry, but it's French. It will drive like ass.
I'd rather stick to French women, than French cars if I had to chose.

I've heard that it drives very well, from the mouth of Jezza himself. And you know if he admitted that a French car drives well, it probably actually does drive well.

Dude, automatic transmissions revmatch now, you need to go read a book or something.

An old Windstar, Freestar, or E-150 will suit you just fine, or you could buy a Transit Connect.

The thing with the DS3 is that it seems to have been designed with the baseball cap Saxo drivers in mind. The DS3 Racing Edition makes it worse.

I always thought in terms of Einkaufswagen (= shopping carts) like the Mercedes SLK, BMW Z3 and Mazda MX-5.
The TT has never been in this category for me, it's more like an `almost-sports car' here. Something 50-year olds buy because a real sports car would knock the hell out of their hemorrhoids.
The 924 and 944 were Volksporsches (ugly anglicism), i. e. for people who have always dreamt of getting a Porsche and then they got a used 924 or 944, because they couldn't afford a proper Porsche (read a 911). A teacher of mine used to own one

I'm not sure why you had manuals so much, they're fun to drive. Your perception is skewed by the American stereotype that only sports cars have manual transmissions: if all your regular (slow) cars have a manual, then your associations are very different.
I find manuals much more pleasant to drive and if there is snow and ice on the roads (especially mountain roads), manual transmissions allow you more control.

Feeling a bit odd reading this thread. ~I killed my Audi A6 Allroad a few weeks back (flooded- complete write-off) and decided to get something a bit more low key as most of my driving is to the train station and back. So I got an '02 Mark IV GTI. Silver, 5 door, 5 speed manual. I'm happy with it. It's fine. But I would much rather have a Mark V with DSG; as I set a £2000 limit for myself, that was out of the question.
So I just bought the car Rob is advocating as superior to the OP's, but would much rather have the OP's.
How about that.

Apparantly, the used cars in the UK are very cheap. My sister tells me the same story.
I don't understand the reason for it.

I think it's because they have absolutely no market outside of the UK.
The rest of Europe has the steering wheel on the correct side, which makes those used cars desirable to a market reaching way into Africa (where a lot of old cars go) and Eastern Europe (where a lot of stolen cars go, too).

Yer correct side is "dominant hand on the wheel, secondary hand on the shifter".
Hence quantity of UK race drivers winning everything over the years.
Same reason why yer keyboard pitch goes ---> instead of <---... ...dominant hand for the fast stuff, secondary hand for the slow.

Due to tax reasons, a lot of people go for lease. Thus, the market is constantly flooded with low-mileage three-year-old cars, which tends to make eight-year-old cars dirt cheap.

Nope. You need correctional steering input to be faster than gear changes, since the mechanics of the gear change (in a manual) introduce a ceiling as to how fast you can swap cogs. No such limit on the steering.

Last I was told, it doesn’t really matter as long as you can hit the shifter at the right time.
