Love Subies, but I have to say that I dislike the styling trend Subaru has taken as of late.
Favorite Subie is old(er) 2.5 RS

I think the new(er) impreza styling is more like those old 2.5RS's than the mid 2000's

It's the headlamps and little square grille in the middle. Not to mention the new Impreza has way more of an ass on it.

What have you done to it? I have a coworker that has an '09. He's done swaybars and a catback so far. From what he's read, any more than that to the engine won't do much without making a change to the computer.

COBB Stage 1 Flash (accessPORT) (+33HP and +43lb-ft), Magnaflow catback, SPT short throw)
some interior/exterior jazz, nothing crazy (Tint, boost gauge, radio, etc.)

I think WRX's are cool... but... I can't stand the interior. I know, I'm so shallow. But they're just econobox garbage. For that kind of coin it should have been screwed together better, and it shouldn't feel like I'm driving a shitbox.
Hence why I loved my SVX. The interior was great. I loved the seats, and the alcantara dash. I think the styling of the GC8 impreza was Subaru's peak, as Sek pointed out.
As for GTIs... I dunno.
MKIV GTI: 2669 lbs, 180hp.
MKV GTI: 2867 lbs, 190hp.
Not really sure where you get off calling the MkIV heavy and underpowered compared to the newer ones, because it's lighter and is within 10hp.

Where'd you mount the boost gauge? My coworker can't come up with a non-tachy location, considering the A-pillar is an airbag (or something like that).

Most of the MK4 came in a 150bhp version, only the anniversary and later plate mk4s came with 180.
The MK5 GTI is 197bhp... and the Edition30 is 227bhp.
My GTI is over a second quicker than a mk4 GTI 0-60.... and yes it is an auto DSG, changes gear in an instant!

The WRX/STI interior is downright awful when you consider you can get the same quality interior in a $16k Impreza all the way through a $38k STI.

Something was confusing me - namely, why my Jeep at 265 bhp accelerates about the same as your newb, give or take a tenth.
Then I looked at the weights. Bloody hell - the mk5 can be nearly as heavy as my Grand Cherokee. That blew apart a few preconceptions!

6.9 actually from Motor Trend, who always are absurdly quick. 7.1 from the manufacturer.

By most you mean the 2000-2002s? Because anything 2003 with a 1.8T has 180hp. Which pretty much means most have 180hp, and with a quick reflash, they'll have 220hp.
Sorry man, not impressed. You spent a buttload of cash on a sporty hatchback that barely outperforms it's predecessor, with an automatic transmission. Plus it weighs ~200lbs more. Glad you like it though.

Them's the figures for the early domestic model. I've got a late export, with the modified manifolds and 140 mph speedo.

Give it up Rob. His new car is rarer than most Ferraris and will rape your Audi on most roads in the UK.
The only advantages your car has over his are that yours is better for antiquing and registers higher on the cockometer.

If you knew anything about the mk4 and its woeful chassis you wouldn't be making such stupid remarks. The 180bhp doesn't map to 220.... that is a complete load of garbage, you'll be lucky to get 210 unless you get a turbo back exhaust. Also the MK4 ran from 1997 till 2003... so what your saying is rubbish! the vast majority of 1.8T are 150bhp, fact!
The MK5 GTI out performs the MK4 GTI in every single way, and the Edition 30 is leagues ahead!Get a map for the Edition 30 and it will be running 300bhp.... not impressed?... sub 5.5sec 0-60... still not impressed? Ohh... and don't knock the DSG until you've tried it, its faster than the manual version!

But Rob totally reads stuff about them on the internet, so what the hell do you think you're doing disagreeing with him? Also, he totally autocrossed a Neon one time like 10 years ago, so he's a really experienced driver.

I know a man who chipped a completely stock A4 1.8T to 220 hp... it lasted for 6 weeks.
You don't want that much power to the front wheels. 0-60 time isn't the point of the GTI. And Rob will claim that he can shift faster than any dual-clutch transmission, even though no human possibly could. That's why (sadly) dual-clutch trannies like the DSG are likely the final nail in the 3-pedal gearbox's coffin.

Looks like the whole car is annoying and distracting. Gauges should be blue, green or white, never red or purple.

VWs used to have blue gauge faces with red needles. Red was used for buttons. Now it's all white, with red needles.

For reference, a 1995 Neon DOHC hits 60mph in 7.5 seconds. So your GTI is .4 seconds quicker than a neon. Congrats. >rolls eyes<

Every person I know with a GTI has the 180hp version. Including my girlfriend. I've heard 220hp with chip + exhaust, easy. Considering the cars cost like 5-7 grand in good shape, what sounds better?
$7000 MkIV GTI + $2000 in upgrades = 220hp, 2700lbs
$25000 MkV GTI 190hp, 2900lbs.
Yeah, gee, what a ****ing deal.
As for edition 30, whatever the hell those are, how much do those run? And 300hp with FWD is kind of stupid. I've driven lots of FWD performance cars, and they don't make much sense above 250hp. They just smoke tires easier. And DSGs are ****ing lame. Sorry. Automatics are for girls. I really don't care if they're .00005 seconds faster, you have less control. No rev matching on downshifts, no heel toe, nothing that connects you to a car. DSG defenders are just afraid to admit they can't drive a car with a proper transmission.
