I tried getting through the last Metal Gear for PS3 but couldn't. The controls were awful and the forced camera perspective made things nearly impossible. I don't know if I even made it through the first mission before shelving it. But the new one is on my Steam wishlist. Once it hits a major price drop I'll probably pick it up.

Fallout 4 is a must-buy. I'll probably be taking it in on PC.
For the remainder of the year:
- Fallout 4
- Super Mario Maker
- Star Wars Battlefront
- Persona 5
All of these scratch a very different itch. I'm probably going to let Persona 5 wait until next year.

Activision ruins everyone
Ex-Bungie composer Marty O'Donnell wins epic legal fight with former bosses | GamesBeat | Games | by Dean Takahashi
The arbitrator found that Bellevue, Wash.-based Bungie violated its contract with O’Donnell — recognized by the parties as being known for his “brilliant and iconic work on video games, including Halo, one of the most successful video games of all time, and Destiny” — when it fired him and forced him to surrender all of his stock and forego participation in the company’s profit participation plan.
Well that doesn't sound vindictive at all. Or is transparently illegal.
Previously, a court arbitrator ruled that Bungie had to return founders’ stock to the fired employee. The arbitrator said in a preliminary injunction that Bungie erred when it stripped the former music and audio chief his founders’ shares in the game studio, which has become extremely valuable because of the success of Halo, which has generated billions of dollars and sold more than 60 million copies, and the success of Destiny.
On April 16, 2010, Bungie and Activision Publishing agreed to make a five-part video game franchise dubbed Destiny. The original release date was set for Sept. 24, 2013 (it came out a year later in 2014). O’Donnell composed music for “every application” of the Destiny franchise.
Pete Parsons, chief operating officer of Bungie, asked O’Donnell to create all of the music for the entire Destiny franchise at the same time, rather than writing the themes one at a time for each of the game installments. O’Donnell composed a symphonic suite of eight movements, working with the legendary ex-Beatle Paul McCartney. O’Donnell recorded that music in early 2013. Dubbed the Music of the Spheres, the music will be used throughout the Destiny franchise. At least, that was the plan. O’Donnell also worked with the audio team on sound design, sound effects, and cinematics, among other things.
The court papers say that Activision had little enthusiasm for releasing the Music of the Spheres as a standalone work, and O’Donnell became increasingly frustrated that Bungie was making insufficient effort to release it. During E3 2013 preparations, Bungie was getting ready to demo the game for the first time before a huge audience at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), the biggest U.S. video game show. Activision was going to play the game music with a trailer, but shortly before E3, Activision took over the trailer work and supplied its own music, rather than the Music of the Spheres segments.
O’Donnell reacted angrily and believed Activision had overstepped its proper role by assuming artistic control of the trailer music. Ryan, the CEO of Bungie, and management shared his concern and filed a “veto” letter with Activision, which overruled the objection. During E3, O’Donnell tweeted that Activision, not Bungie, had composed the trailer music. He also threatened Bungie employees in an attempt to keep the trailer from being posted online and interrupted press briefings.
The court filings say that O’Donnell believed he was preserving Bungie’s “creative process, artistic integrity, and reputation, keeping faith with fans, and protecting Bungie and its intellectual property from Activision’s encroachment into artistic decisions.” According to O’Donnell’s view, the “Band of Brothers” ethos that had inspired the group’s earlier work was being damaged by the Activision relationship.
Ryan and other Bungie management felt that his conduct “hurt the Bungie team, hurt the game, drove a negative online discussion, and violated Ryan’s instructions.” They also believed that O’Donnell was elevating his interest in publishing Music of the Spheres over the best interests of the company. Activision advised Bungie that O’Donnell’s conduct may constitute a breach of the parties’ contract.
Ryan recommended that O’Donnell be fired. He wasn’t fired, but his conduct was considered “unacceptable” in his performance review. O’Donnell objected to the review, as he noted that Bungie presented no evidence of permanent damage to the Bungie-Activision relationships, the audio team, or ultimate game sales.
While Destiny was planned for a September 2013 release, the story was substantially revised in August 2013. That pushed the release date back to March 2014. O’Donnell returned to work after a vacation, but the audio team and his supervisor did not consider him to be fully engaged in his work. The release date of the game, meanwhile, pushed back to September 2014. Bungie set in motion a process to terminate O’Donnell.
Meanwhile, O’Donnell argued that the audio work could not be completed until the game was in a bug-free, playable state. He felt the treatment was unfair but said he would continue to work. Members of the team complained that O’Donnell wasn’t contributing as expected, and his presence was frustrating the completion of the audio work. Ryan proposed to the Bungie board that O’Donnell be terminated.
That said, he's obviously a little crazy.

Nintendo speeds up Super Mario Maker’s onerous nine-day unlock cycle | Ars Technica
Good news for those of you planning to play game designer with Super Mario Maker when the game is officially released tomorrow. It seems you'll now be able to play with the game's entire suite of level-making tools within a number of hours rather than having to wait for those elements to be unlocked over nine days as had been previously announced (and as we poor reviewers had to do).

What porn site statistics can tell us about the worldwide console wars | Ars Technica
I'm just going to throw this out there, but I see a minor correlation between liberality and PS4 use. It'd be easier to make if we had a less binary graphics – Washington, Oregon, and Minnesota are kind of absent.
Edit: Since I should read more
As a result, if Microsoft and Sony were somehow running for president, and electoral votes were based on how many people used each company's consoles to visit YouPorn, PlayStation would win the electoral college 344 to 194. While that particular presidential race seems somewhat unlikely to actually happen, all the PlayStation-dominant states in YouPorn's data are Democratic-leaning "blue states" or more middle-of-the-road "purple states" like New Hampshire, Virginia, and Florida.
Yowza.

I'm about to spend 450€ on a XBone purely on the reviews of Forza 6 and after having played 30 minutes of Horizons 2 this weekend.
Please, talk me out of it.

Did you own both previous platforms?
Do you think GT6 (or whatever number it is) will match this? Do you think it will come out before the PS5?

Only owned a Xbox 360. Loved Horizons, Forza 4 was even better. Haven't even seen Forza 5.
Played a bit of GT (can't remember which one TBH) on the PS3 quite a while back and thought it was good as well. Online was great fun and not the destruction derby that Need For Speed turned out to be. GT7 is supposedly to be released 2015/2016. Will it be better? Fcuk knows.

I pasted from Wikipedia. You're right though, no word during E3 so probably not this year.
Wonder if the wife would divorce me if I ended up with 2 consoles.
That 1TB XBone Forza 6 Edition sure looks nice.

Thought that I'd have to order it but they had a few in the shop that I went to. Setup tonight, apparently the transfer from Xbox 360 to XBone isn't painful. Download (no physical media for Forza 6) will take a while but apparently you can start playing without the full game being present.

Destiny: The Taken King Leaves Players Who Didn't Upgrade Behind
On September 14, anyone with a copy of Destiny could play a variety of crucible modes or take on the nightfall and weekly heroic strikes; as of September 15, they can’t. Quite a few people aren’t pleased about that, and they’ve taken to Reddit, forums, and Kotaku’s email inboxes to get out the message. (One Redditor has put together a good compilation of all the stuff that’s locked out now.)
Bungie’s forums are full of Destiny players complaining about this problem in colorful ways.
“Is this even legal?” writes one player. “Say you buy a couch for 100. After a year the company you bought it from comes to your door and asks you 40 dollars extra for the couch and if you buy it you get a nice pillow. You say you don’t want to pay. They saw your couch in half and take one half with them... That’s how I feel about TTK so far.”
Rough times in the DLC age.

The latest Starcraft expansion launches on November 10th, which is the same day as Fallout 4 and Rise of the Tomb Raider. Anyone traveling to then from the nineties is going to feel right at home.

Took a while to download Forza 6 and Forza Hub but I managed to start playing before it was finished. Previous Forza X and Forza Horizons players will feel right at home. Loading takes a while but thats forgotten once you start racing.
I find it amazing. Just really amazing how Turn 10 have managed to make you feel like you're losing grip when hydroplanning. How the fcuk do you even explain how to program for that using a game console? Game is very fluid, no problems when racing. Sound is amazing (including the vroom Xbone startup noise).
I used the same difficulty settings that I'd used for Forza 4 and Horizons and it took me a while to finish 3rd or above for the initial career races. Sebring in the rain was a nightmare for the 3rd round. Had to drop the steering from the highest difficulty to medium and finished 3rd. You then get an invite to do an Indy race. I was leading and spun out but still managed 2nd. Got to 355km/hr.
Reckon the game is a must buy for any Forza / GT fans. Plenty of offline content. I got a few extra cars and credits since I'd played Forza 4 and Horizons but pretty sure that I'll buy more with packs or the VIP package.
So far, very happy that I splashed out for the XBone Forza Edition. My son is too.

I saw an article on everyone's favourite game franchise CoD and thought I'd post it.
https://ca.finance.yahoo.com/news/ac...180514393.html
Didn't know playing video games was a sport. E-sports, what next. But I guess it has been around for awhile. Now it's expanding.
Too bad I wasn't that good to play it professionally. Could make some money.

Did this thread die? Lots of little tidbits of news, like Sony effectively calling the Vita dead in the water, CODBLOPS3 getting cut in half on last-gen consoles, more hints of the Oculus Rift final price ("over $300"), etc.

To be fair, what Sony said was that a successor was unlikely since everyone is gaming on phones, but they wouldn't be saying that if it was selling.

I decided to watch some videos of the beta last night. The game modes they chose for it don't move the needle for me. The drop-pod game type is 5 v 5 (That's right less than CoD) and Walker Assault seemed like Rush mixed with something else. Has potential, but the videos weren't selling it for me. Preparing for a disappointing beta.

Alright, so my feelings towards the beta are mixed, but I'm not going to be canceling my pre-order.
Pros:
- The music is incredibly powerful, and you notice it more during the survival mode. It's not just about nostalgia; you forget just how good it is. They implemented it well, and made it swell and swoon at all the right moments. In before "that's what she said" joke...
- Forget the 900p complaints. The graphics are great, and I've noticed very few hiccups. There's some occasional texture pop-in, but I haven't found anything too distracting. The point: looks great.
- The shooting mechanics feel tight enough. The grenades aren't too floaty, but I'm still having getting used to them.
Cons:
- The in-match token system sucks. They're randomly dropped, and I can't figure out why they're not tied to performance instead.
- Too few upgrades, at least in the beta. We need more guns, more options. I hope there's more in the full release.
- The Rebels always seem to lose.
- Heroes are actually under-powered, with a constantly-draining HP bar.
- No real secondary weapon. The "side arm," so to speak, is a rechargeable one-shot sniper rifle.
If this wasn't a Star Wars title, I'm not sure how I'd react to it. That said, it's impossible to dissociate the experience from Star Wars, seeing that the entire thing centers around the license and all the nostalgia that comes with it. Much feels.
One last point: I have no idea how the other game modes are going to feel, so I'm reserving judgment. I also don't know how much cosmetic customization is going to be involved, but that was a big part of Black Ops for me, so I'm hoping they don't disappoint. However, there are little segments of the game that feel rushed. Please, please, please fix it, DICE.

So, played the beta...
Not impressed. I feel like a large part of this is because their game mode selection was abysmal. A low player count king of the hill and a high player count unbalanced mess. To the people who say this is Battlefield reskinned – you are idiots.
So, where to begin? The power-up system is atrocious. It completely luck based. The game feels watered down for casuals, though that is debatable as not being able to jetpack until level 5 was bullshit. Did not care for what little I saw of the unlock system. I'm sure having infinite grenades with only a cooldown won't be bitched about, ever.
The graphics are gorgeous, almost uncannily so. In the Horde mode the soldiers looked like live-action, with edge jaggies, moving on a pre-rendered background. It just didn't mesh well. But god damn do they look good.
Using the speeders – absolutely no explanation of what the symbols mean. Decidedly uncasual friendly.
I'm assuming this was a stealth demo rather than a beta (Open 5 days? You're not stress-testing shit) their choice of walker assault is the most head-scratching thing. You spend rounds alternating between getting crushed and whipping the other team.
Edit: I Haven't pre-ordered, won't pre-order, and really don't want to pay $60 for this.
What I remember about the first battlefront is completely missing: Large scale battles with plenty of vehicles.

With the last gen, at some point I was playing rarely enough I knew I should fire the console up a few hours in advance to do updates and the like unless I wanted to wait.
Now that I'm consoleless, I'd forgotten about that.

Report: Nintendo's Next Platform NX Combines Console And Handheld In Some Way
People familiar with the development plans said Nintendo would likely include both a console and at least one mobile unit that could either be used in conjunction with the console or taken on the road for separate use. They also said Nintendo would aim to put industry-leading chips in the NX devices, after criticism that the Wii U’s capabilities didn’t match those of competitors.
Duh.
I love the idea, and given the overwhelmingly positive feedback on the Wi U's offscreen capabilities, seems like the right move.

Hmmm? I'm enjoying the misery of anyone trying to set-up an X1 because of its terrible development history. The PS4 is no joy (hello modern era), but a lot of faults he had don't apply so much to it.

Frankly the guy probably goes on a rant for everything he sets up... his TV, his phone, his car, etc.
I frankly don't remember any problems setting up my Xbox One, other than the install time for games and Xbox updates. But they'll always be there, unless your not going to install games on a console and rather play them in the "cloud".
The only issue I had was with Destiny, and found out that Destiny, the game, is very sensitive to latency. I found this out when I upgraded my internet and modem/router, because I had to wait for a day or 2 for Rogers to push a fix for their new modem that they gave me (it had a known latency bug and the fix had been out for months). There's another thing this guy would rant about, modem/router setup.
