Hello, sorry for asking a stupid question...
Does anyone know if it would be possible to fit a beige G3 (266mhz) with OS X + ethernet ADSL modem. Precisely, do I need a 10/100baseT
ethernet card in my G3, or is the 10baseT ethernet card sufficient?
Thanks for your help.

10BaseT is fine. Most Cable/DSL routers only have 10BaseT ports anyway. It's far faster than the signal the router is transmitting so you're fine. I had Cable on my beige G3 for a year before getting a new machine with 10/100 and the speed is no different.

I switch my cable internet connection back and forth between my 7600 and Ti Powerbook 550 which has 10/100/1000BaseT. Any differences between the internet on the two machines is entirely due to the speed differences between the machines, as far as I can see, not due to the ethernet speed.

Dear Paul and WizOSX, I thank you for your responses. I'll try to set up an ADSL connection on my old G3 fitted with os X.
Cheers,
Zacharie

Zacharie--

I run OS X on my 7600 with a 604e processor (no G3 or G4 card added) and yet the cable internet is still works well enough to be enjoyable. You should have even better luck.

BTW--when you say "Reunion island" do you mean you live east of Madagascar? If so, how does the cable internet work there? Is it a private company and is the connection through satellite? Just curious?

Yes, WizOSX, I live near Madagascar island, just between Mauritius and Madagascar. As Reunion island is a french territory, we get exactly the same services as in Europe, provided by the same companies. For instance, France Telecom provides the DSL lines on the island and it works well at 1024 kbs/s. For the time being, data travels through satellites, but by the end of the semester, data should travel via a submarine cable provided by the EU; we might expect better flows then, though it works pretty well at the moment. Thanks again, for the infos.
