Does ANYONE know what that AWESOME music was that Steve Jobs played before & after the keynote in both San Francisco and Tokyo?? I have a feeling that it's unavailable anywhere, and that it was orchestrated exclusively for MacWorld Expo.

The music that accompanies the BBC newscasts from England - two
distinct parts. Have been to their web site - contains no info on
the music - awsome on my theatre sound system.

The first time I heard it was in the 5 Minute Video that came out at MacWorld SF when the PowerBook G4 debuted (which they also ran during the Tokyo keynote).

I have a feeling also that Apple hired a composer for that piece as opposed to it being a song that Apple licensed from an artist.
I'll dig a little bit to find out any more info if i can (I love data mining and searching for obscure things!)

The music in the keynote and the 5 minute video is BT's "Godspeed". BT is also interviewed it the video.

Um, well, I think scotty was talking about the world-musicy sounding song with vocals that was playing "before & after the keynote". Not the busy, techno thing that "Godspeed" is (tell me if I'm wrong scotty).

Godspeed was playing before MacWord SF and it is also in the video. Godspeed also contains those vocals, so my guess is the parts you are referring to is just an extended version.

I watched the entire keynote on C band live - the music was playing for about
5 minutes while the cameras just surveyed the facility - the stage was still empty.

The video available to view includes just a couple of bars as SJ starts talking immediately.

The music played again briefly when SJ's presentation was over.

Sounded something like tribal music from Africa - very impressive.

Right WDL, that's the music we're all referring to (except foobars).
foobars - I have three different versions of "Godspeed", one is 9:00 off the "Movement in Still Life" CD, one is 4:59 off the "Trance Global Nation 2" compilation and the third is remix by DJ Micro, clocking in at 8:39.
NONE of those versions even remotely resemble the music that we are talking about foobars. Yes, "Godspeed" contains vocals, but they are heavily sampled and processed - not the African choral-type vocals of the song in question.
In addition, the tempo of "Godspeed" is nearly twice that of the song we're trying to find. I doubt any remix or alternate version would have such a drastic tempo shift.
Bottom line: We're talking about two different songs here foobars.

I think the song used at the beginning/end of MacWorld Tokyo was the same one used in the 5 minute Powerbook presentation. It's called "Rain Dance" by Karl Jenkins.

This is indeed the correct song. I found it on Macster (yes, horrible I know and I'm very happy that Napster will soon not exist). More info can be found here and here.

Apple should stick to Bach, or in the case of OS X, Kruder & Dorfmeister. The latest build of OSX has a welcome screen that uses music from "The K&D Sessions." Smooth move Apple...

That Karl Jenkins stuff is okay, but a little goofy. It's flowery, pseudo world music through the eyes of American suburbia.
